Pattie is out shopping with her mum when a TV interviewer stops them on the street and asks Mary what she thinks of the present day teenage generation. The interview is seen by a TV producer who wants Mary to represent an ordinary housewife on a new panel game show. Mary's TV appearances indirectly get a singing audition for Pattie's boyfriend, Steve. Popularity increases for both Mary and Steve. But Pattie sees her father belittled by a panel member with designs on Mary. And Steve's new female manager makes it clear to Pattie that she intends to take Steve away from her.
