Star Love Stories #470

“Lonely Girl”

"Lonely Girl" is a tender, quietly surprising story from Star Love Stories #470, where Julie’s growing bond with a mysterious pen-pal—whom she believes to be an airline pilot—takes an unexpected turn when she learns the truth behind the letters. As her coworkers misinterpret a chance encounter with a bakery delivery man, the line between fantasy and reality blurs, and Stella’s quiet interest in Bill begins to stir. A simple, heartfelt tale of connection and mistaken identity, illustrated with the clean, expressive style of a 1972 D.C. Thomson romance comic, with typeset lettering and a cover by an unknown artist.

Julie becomes pen-pals with a man who claims to be an airline pilot. After being teased by her co-workers, she claims he is her boyfriend. However, she soon discovers her pen-pal is actually a young boy who had been writing as a lark, even enclosing a picture of his uncle as the pilot. Later, when a bakery delivery man offers to give Julie a ride, her friends see them from a distance and mistake his uniform for a pilot's uniform. Meanwhile, Stella finds out that Bill is more than just a delivery boy and wants to win him for herself.
