Joanne had come to a small town near New York to visit her sick father who was now dead. In the few weeks before his death, Joanne had fallen in love. They are planning to be married when Joanne receives a call from her stepsister, telling her that Joanne's stepfather and mother have died in a car accident. Joanne returns to England to bring Karen back to America, but Karen is in the last term at her theatrical school and refuses to leave. Joanne discovers that Karen has no talent and the school had been using her parents to make money.
