Everyone assumed that Joy and Neil would get married one day. But their lives change when Tony sees a dog hit by a car. Learning that Neil, playing tennis nearby, is studying to be a vet, Tony takes the dog to Neil. While Neil looks after the dog, Joy's club friends make snobbish remarks about Tony and Joy sticks up for him. Tony decides Joy is the girl for him and soon they start seeing each other. But he's ambitious and wants to make a name for himself before he comes back for her. While he is away becoming a success, Joy feels ignored and is drawn back to Neil.
