“Dinosaur D-Day!”

In "Dinosaur D-Day!", a weary lieutenant and sergeant lead a ragtag squad tasked with cleaning up a war-torn island—only to find themselves facing a prehistoric threat when dinosaurs suddenly emerge from stranded landing craft. Written by Robert Kanigher and brought to life with dynamic art by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, this 1963 tale blends wartime grit with unexpected sci-fi absurdity, as the soldiers defend their position using scrap weapons and a captured Japanese tank. The cover, also by Andru and Esposito, captures the moment the dinosaurs rise from the surf—pure, pulpy adventure in a 12-cent package.

A bottom-of-the-barrel lieutenant and sergeant are given a squad of "sad sack snafus" and sent to police (clean up) battlefields. On (Dinosaur) island, they clean up smashed materiel after a battle. The only action is waiting on LSTs that went missing. The LSTs land: and dinosaurs debark! The soldiers fight dinosaurs with junk weapons and a Japanese tank. Finally pushed to the surf, they shove a floating mine at the dinosaurs and blow up the last. "They'll have to strike a new kind of medal for the fight you and your men put up here!"
