Cadet Hawk is captured by the Starjammers and put to the lowly work of swabbing decks on their spaceship. Heading back to the Thorn home world, the Jammers stop for one more raid against a Committee ship but are ambushed and outgunned by a pair of Union Defense Corps Viper ships. During the battle, the ships get caught in an ion storm and the pirate ship loses power. With the lights out, Tolo seeks a way to exact his revenge against his captors.
