Rachel and Zak are rescued by Beatle while searching the mines. Piel attempts to win Ely over to the side of the Old Lords. Baron Zara's thugs are out to kill all Rangers. When Ely goes into battle, his psychic abilities activate the sword he has been carrying. Rickard goads Ely into killing him with that blade, believing it to be the link to the Old Lord's world.
