Steve Roper investigates the mysterious "7-11 Club," where a reporter and a Wahoo have vanished after hours of surveillance. While searching an auto trunk, Roper and his companion discover cold metal objects and a hand pump for chuck wagon wheels. Meanwhile, a subplot involves film studio agents visiting Miss Penny Royal's home to arrange a publicity photo shoot, during which a magician named Mr. "E" is hired to perform at her child's birthday party; the magician's act includes making a lion disappear, frightening the young girl. The story weaves together these investigation and domestic comedy elements across multiple scenes.
