"Don't Box Me In!" features Dr. Martin Peale, an avid student of the past who discovers a moving ancient Egyptian statue—a discovery described as "the discovery of the century"—that comes to life and escapes. "Shadow Over Manton Farm" concerns a decaying farmhouse in Maine with a sinister reputation for being haunted, where two men quarrel over ill-gotten gains within its walls. "Don't Box Me In!" concludes with Dr. Peale leading an expedition into the Arizona desert, where his team discovers an ancient carving of a lost race at least 10,000 years old that resembles the Indian god Mogum, which they carefully preserve for museums.
In "The Mardenburg Curse," ancient blood feud and supernatural retribution collide when the 10th Baron Von Felsenweir, humiliated by a horse race loss to the current Baron Von Mardenberg, burns down the rival's stable—unaware he has just sealed his own fate. Soon after, a monstrous, unknown horse appears, and when Frederick Von F attempts to tame it, he finds himself trapped in a nightmare of fire and fury. As flames consume his estate, the horse’s ghost emerges from the smoke, fulfilling a vengeance that spans generations.
