Meanwhile, the "Vergessenen Helden" converge on golden pyramids through separate paths, united by the Unsterblichen to turn against the Man of Steel. Written by Marv Wolfman and brought to life with dynamic art by Gil Kane—both inks and pencils, with coloring by Anthony Tollin—this 1984 issue features a cover also by Gil Kane, capturing the tension of a hero caught in a web of unintended consequences.

Superman bekämpft seltsame Ranken und wird von Wilder Wandale beobachtet. Bei ihrem letzten Zusammentreffen hatte er ihn mit biochemischen Kulturen besprüht und so ist der Stählerne unwissentlich Ursache der Zerstörung. Gleichzeitig treffen die "Vergessenen Helden" auf unterschiedlichen Wegen auf einige goldene Pyramiden. Der Unsterbliche führt sie zusammen um gegen Superman zu kämpfen.
