Superman: Sacrifice #[nn]
In "Power," Superman stands at a breaking point—blood on his hands, memories fractured, and the line between hero and villain blurring. Written by Gail Simone and illustrated by John Byrne, this 2006 issue sees the Man of Steel confronted by the JLA in the Fortress of Solitude, where conflicting memories of a brutal encounter with a mind-controlled Lois and a twisted version of Darkseid challenge everything he knows. The cover by J. G. Jones captures the tension perfectly, as Superman’s world unravels in a story that redefines what it means to be a hero.

In Superman's fortress, Green Lantern, Flash, Hawkman, and Black Canary confront Superman, who has blood on his hands. Superman tries to remember what happened, but now remembers differently the events of Superman #219. He remembers "Darkseid" kidnapping Lois, and forcing a boxing match between the two of them. After Superman wins on a technicality, "Darkseid" frees Lois from his control by killing her, which causes Superman to attack-to-kill "Darkseid". The JLA take Superman to the Watchtower, where they show him he really was attacking Batman, apparently under mind control.
