Superman: The Man of Steel #105

Part of DC's 2000 "Reign of Emperor Joker" crossover, this issue's cover by Kano and Drew Geraci delivers a striking juxtaposition: a crumbling stone statue of Superman — adorned with doves and a "Wanted for Murder" poster tacked to its base — looms over a battered, bloodied Batman struggling against what appears to be a mechanical adversary. The subtitle "Fallen Idols" says it all, with the image suggesting that in Emperor Joker's twisted world, no hero's reputation — or body — is safe.
