Tales of Terror #2

Sep 1985 · Eclipse · 1.75 USD; 2.25 CAD
“Live-in Dead”

"Live-in Dead" delivers a delightfully dark twist on domestic horror in this 1985 Eclipse gem, where a zombie husband returns from the grave not for vengeance, but to maintain order—his compulsive tidying habits leading him from a cluttered home to a tropical getaway. Written and illustrated by Eric Vincent, with full creative control across pencils, inks, colors, and letters, the story unfolds with eerie precision, blending absurdity and dread in equal measure. John Begley’s cover captures the tale’s offbeat menace, perfectly framing a man haunted not by death, but by the lingering need to clean.

After a woman and her lover kill her husband, the household falls into disarray without him to keep it clean. The husband rises from the grave as a zombie and attempts to return home, but the couple has already used his savings to take a long vacation in Hawaii. The zombie compulsively tidies the house before traveling to Hawaii to track them down. When he finally finds the pair, he ends up cleaning their lodgings as well, only then remembering he originally came seeking revenge.
