Tales of the Darkness #3

Aug 1998 · Image · 2.95 USD; 4.45 CAD

Tales of the Darkness #3 (1998) delivers a chilling blend of gothic mystery and surreal storytelling, as Alexandre and Maximillion uncover a hidden lair of the Brotherhood of Darkness. When the Brotherhood’s enigmatic leader, Sonatine, arrives with a promise to read a lost book by Cervantes—before killing Alexandre—the story shifts to a haunting parallel: Cervantes and Sancho Panza take refuge in a barn now haunted by the gypsy Michaelangelo Estacado, fleeing a past entanglement with a maid. With art by Clarence Lansang and Victor Llamas on the cover, and a layered, atmospheric palette from Tyson Wengler and the Buccellato team, this issue weaves myth and menace with eerie precision.

Alexandre and Maximillion are investigating a secret lair of the Brotherhood of Darkness when the leader of the Brotherhood, Sonatine, and his men arrive. Sonatine digs through the treasure chest and finds a lost book by Cervantes which he promises to read to Alexandre after which he plans on killing her. In the story, Cervantes and Sancho Panza are shacking up in a local barn because the hostel it connects to is being occupied by members of the Inquisition. They find the barn has a previous tenant as well, the gypsy Michaelangelo Estacado who is hiding out after a dalliance with the maid.
