This anthology issue contains three stories: "Escape," in which Myron King returns to his stateroom during a storm at sea and encounters mysterious supernatural events; "The Peacemaker of Sidi-Bel-Abbes," featuring The Honorable Charles R. Winston's tour of the French Foreign Legion headquarters in North Africa, where he hears the story of Robert Winston's Colt .45 revolver and its significance to a legionnaire named Hans Dormeister; and an untitled desert story in which Sarge and his men are tasked with locating an oil pipeline for the Arab ruler in the blazing desert sands, leading to a suspenseful nighttime encounter.

In "The Desert," the Mysterious Traveler recounts a tale of isolation and unexpected kinship, following two men stranded in a frozen wasteland—amiral Curton and meteorologen Ainsworth—whose fragile truce fractures when Ainsworth attempts to flee with a dog team. Left behind, he collapses in the snow, only to be rescued by the very man he tried to abandon. What begins as a test of survival becomes a quiet bond forged in the silence of the endless cold.

Young Jack Caruthers, a promising nineteen-year-old seaman serving under Captain Rayburn aboard the *Valiant*, earns the resentment of the crew—particularly the bitter Doug Pembert—for his connection to the captain's past. When a violent storm strikes near the West Indies and leaves the captain injured, Jack must hold the wheel steady through the night, but he soon discovers that shadowy figures are moving through the ship with dangerous intent. Quick thinking and nerve will determine whether Jack can stop a mutiny before it's too late.

Mysterious Traveler (host)Sergeant Bart Arnold

Sergeant Bart Arnold and six handpicked soldiers are sent on a seemingly suicide mission to defend a thousand-mile oil pipeline stretching across the desert against an expected attack by Arab forces—but the Sarge soon realizes there's far more to their assignment than the Colonel initially revealed. As the small band holds off wave after wave of attackers led by the fierce Sheik Ali Rhengis, Arnold begins to piece together why they were really sent to this remote stretch of sand, and the truth behind Operation Blacksnake unfolds in the desert heat.
