A police captain suspects Sam, a security guard, of being involved in a jewelry store robbery after thieves escape into a crowd while Sam is distracted on a date with Ellen Banks. When the captain discovers that Sam had been assigned to protect money at a theater box office that was robbed the same week, he becomes convinced of Sam's guilt. Inspector Gay attempts to trap Sam into confessing by having him meet with criminals, but Sam maintains his innocence. Renato, one of the actual burglars, is eventually caught with stolen jewels, and the evidence clears Sam's name, vindicating him in the captain's eyes.
