Tarzan hjälper en vetenskaplig expedition få tillträde till pagombasstammens land under förevändningen att de ska hitta ett botemedel mot malaria. I själva verket vill de vita männen hitta en sjunken skatt i floden och konspirerar med pagombas medicinman Chaka för att döda hövding Nkola och vända stammen mot Tarzan. Med hjälp av sina vänner mazaierna slår Tarzan tillbaka pagombas och stoppar skattjakten.
