Peg, whose family is poor, dates Bruce, the son of a “rich and socially prominent family.” Peg’s ex-boyfriend Dave warns her against Bruce and his “wild crowd,” and Peg’s father forbids her to date him. Peg sneaks out to a nightclub with Bruce; he’s driving her home when he hits a pedestrian and doesn’t stop. Peg later learns it was her father who was hit, and “if the rat who hit him had stopped and taken him to a hospital he would’ve had a chance!” Peg confesses all; Bruce is arrested and Peg is consoled by Dave.
