The main story, "Jungle Poison," follows Tom Henry, a government agricultural chemist working at a plantation in Batjo to develop a new rubber formula. When Tom learns that the ruthless Mylo Jung—a "cursed white man with the black beard"—wants to steal Dr. Lawn's synthetic rubber formula to revolutionize the industry, he travels to Jung's plantation to protect the formula and Dr. Lawn. Tom's presence incites Jung to attack his party; several natives are killed in the assault. Additional jungle adventure sequences depict characters in peril, including a woman named Martha attempting a dangerous rescue and characters struggling in quicksand and among jungle hazards.
