The 39 Screams #1
"Till Death Do Us Part" in The 39 Screams #1 (1986) delivers a chilling, character-driven tale from writer Ed Colby and artist Stephen Blickenstaff, whose moody interior art perfectly complements the story’s creeping unease. When a drunk man buys a mysterious ventriloquist’s dummy, strange events unfold—losing his job, confronting his father’s declining health, and facing a night of reckoning in a bar where the doll seems to have a will of its own. Cover by Bob Kathman captures the story’s haunting tone, making this a standout entry in Thunder Baas Press’s early horror lineup.

A drunk feels drawn to purchase a ventriloquist's dummy. He gets drunk that night, gets rolled, and thinks something strange has happened with the doll. The next day he gets fired from his job, and eventually ends up having dinner with his folks. His father is angry and meeting with his own mortality and the drunk can't handle it. The doll pulls him out of the bar at the end of a bender, but in the end the doll can no longer take the depressing life of men.
