The Adventures of Rex the Wonder Dog #19
In "The Gold Stampede!", Rex the Wonder Dog’s pal Bobo takes a break from his usual antics to try weightlifting—after all, even detectives need strength. When a notorious gang kidnaps Miss Moka, the chimp movie star, Bobo leaps into action, tracking the crooks by a single out-of-order taillight. With a mix of wits and a clever splash of saltwater, he outsmarts the villains in a wild chase that lands him a surprise role in the film. Written by John Broome and illustrated by Carmine Infantino, with lettering by Gaspar Saladino, this 1955 adventure blends slapstick charm and classic detective flair. The cover, by Gil Kane and Bernard Sachs, captures the chaos in bold, dynamic lines.

Bobo's latest craze is weightlifting, because detectives need to be tough. Meanwhile thugs plan to kidnap Miss Moka, a chimp movie star. The Sheriff stops by the movie set, and Bobo falls in love. The kidnappers grab Miss Moka, and Bobo follows the getaway trailer - because a taillight is out. Trying brute force, he gets smacked around, so uses brains instead of brawn by splashing salt water in a thug's eyes. Bobo gets a bit part in the movie - and chucks his weights out the window.
