“Rex of the Fighting Seventh! Cavalry!”

In "Rex of the Fighting Seventh! Cavalry!", DC's beloved canine hero teams up with old friend Dr. Kirby to recover a lost government satellite hidden in the Pacific. With a special diving rig and quick thinking, Rex navigates underwater dangers, outwits greedy thieves, and helps a native village that's come to revere the satellite as a lucky talisman. Written by John Broome and brought to life with dynamic art by Gil Kane—both interior and cover—this 1958 adventure blends action, humor, and heart in a story that's as thrilling as it is charming.

On behalf of the government, Dr. Kirby, an old friend, asks for Rex's help finding a secret test satellite that fell into the Pacific. Diving with a special mask and tank, Rex saves Kirby from being wedged in a rock, and drives off a killer whale. Friendly natives explain they netted a "metal fish" and now worship it for good luck. But two thugs grab the satellite to ransom it back. Rex fakes being shot to get the drop on them. The satellite is safe, and the natives get a generous donation of motor boats.
