Sep 1952 · DC · 0.10 USD
“Wanted -- One P.O.W.!”

In "Wanted — One P.O.W.!", former vaudeville stars Lou Palmer and his kangaroo partner Leapin' Lena find themselves washing dishes at the Old Actor's Home—where pets aren’t allowed—after the golden age of stage fades. When a robbery rocks a local restaurant, Lena’s quick reflexes and boxing skills take center stage as she chases down the fleeing crooks in a wild, high-speed pursuit. Written by John Broome and illustrated by Irwin Hasen with inks by Bernard Sachs, this 1952 adventure captures the charm and zany energy of a forgotten era, all capped off with a heartwarming twist and a TV comeback that brings joy to the old home. The cover by Gil Kane and Sy Barry perfectly captures the action, with Lena mid-leap in pursuit.

Lou Palmer and Leapin' Lena, a kangaroo, were stage stars until vaudeville faded. They opt for the Old Actor's Home, but "pets" are banned, so they wash dishes. Robbers rob the restaurant. Lena boxes them silly, then pursues their getaway car and jumps atop so it crashes. A TV exec offers them a TV show, and Lou and Lena are hits again! They even sent a fat check to the Old Actor's Home so pets can be attend.
