Furious at finding Gipsies forced to camp in a garbage-strewn field, Captain Haddock invites hem onto his own land. He does not invite Bianca Castafiore, who descends upon him anyhow. Trapped in a wheelchair, he is forced to endure not only her singing but also hordes of reporters, who quickly proclaim that Haddock and Bianca plan to marry. When the Castafiore emerald goes missing, police quickly arrest the Gipsies, but Tintin finally proves that the real thief is a magpie.
