When Tintin investigates a forced airplane landing, the pilot shoots him. After recovering, he's framed and arrested. But Tintin escapes and makes his way to England, then pursues the mystery airplane to Scotland where it lands on the Black Island. This is said to be inhabited by a monstrous beast, so he's forced to go there on his own. Here he discovers a counterfeiting gang and a fierce gorilla, both of which he outwits and outfights. Tintin is cleared, the gang is arrested, and the gorilla finds a happy home in the zoo.
