The Amazing Spider-Man vol. 3 #1 (April 2014) marked the much-anticipated restoration of Peter Parker as Spider-Man after more than a year of Otto Octavius occupying his body in The Superior Spider-Man — an event so heavily anticipated that Diamond Comics Distributors reported it as the best-selling comic book in over a decade. Beyond Peter's return, the issue carries enormous narrative weight as the cameo debut of Cindy Moon, a Korean-American character who would become Silk: the revelation that the same radioactive spider that bit Peter also bit her fundamentally expanded Spider-Man's origin mythology. In January 2014, Marvel confirmed the title's return for April 30, 2014, as part of the All-New Marvel NOW! initiative, picking up directly from the conclusion of The Superior Spider-Man after 31 issues. The book was crafted by the same core team — writer Dan Slott and penciller Humberto Ramos — who had worked together on the title since 2010 and had co-created the Superior Spider-Man era; their familiarity with the characters gave the reunion issue an immediate, lived-in momentum. To justify an 81-page oversize package, Marvel structured the issue as an anthology, with Slott co-writing additional backup strips alongside Christos Gage (with artists Javier Rodriguez and Giuseppe Camuncoli), plus separate stories by Peter David, Chris Yost, and Joe Caramagna, each spinning off into new or existing series. Editor Nick Lowe and editor-in-chief Axel Alonso shepherded the launch, which also received a special digital edition including Slott's full script and Ramos's penciled and inked page progressions.
