The Amazing Spider-Man #218
In "Eye of the Beholder!", a monstrous fusion of Hydro-Man and Sandman rises from the wreckage of their battle, towering over the city and taking Sadie Frickett hostage—someone both villains secretly admired. As the creature's unstable form teeters between rage and fragile calm, a shocking performance on stage pushes it over the edge, leading to a desperate climb up a skyscraper with Sadie in tow. Denny O'Neil's gripping tale, illustrated with dynamic precision by John Romita Jr. and inked by Jim Mooney and Milgrom, captures the chaos and emotional weight of a monster caught between two identities. The cover, a striking piece by Frank Miller, perfectly frames the moment's tension.

The merged Hydro-Man and Sandman grow into a huge mud monster. The monster then captures Sadie Frickett, a woman both men had a crush on. She is able to calm the beast down and even signs a deal to perform with him on stage. When the monster sees her kissing another man during the show, he goes berserk, breaks free, and captures Sadie. He then proceeds to climb up a tall building with her in hand. Helicopters buzz around him dousing him with gas causing him to fall to his 'death' on the streets below.
