The Big Bad Fox #[nn]
In "The Big Bad Fox," a fox who’s terrible at stealing chickens is convinced by a wolf to try raising chicks instead—only to find himself unexpectedly devoted to the little flock. As the chicks imprint on him as their mother, he must hide them in the barnyard, where his presence causes chaos and his new family struggles to fit in. With the help of a grudging community and a strange new routine, the fox begins to prove he’s more than just a predator. Written and illustrated by Benjamin Renner, this heartfelt story unfolds with warmth and humor, and the cover by Renner captures its offbeat charm.

Since the fox is a complete failure at stealing chickens, the wolf convinces him to steal eggs and raise the chicks for eating. The chicks imprint on the fox as their mother, and he becomes very fond of them. To save them from the wolf he hides in the barnyard, but he is not all welcome there, and the chicks, who think they're foxes, cause trouble in school. Finally it's agreed that the odd little family can stay, but the fox must submit to daily indignities as practice for the hens' Fox Exterminators' Club. Since he loves the chicks and wants to stay with them, he agrees.
