The Blue Beetle #19
# The Mint Mystery In late 1890s San Francisco, reporter Jim Cabey investigates Chinatown and encounters the mysterious Mint Master, a criminal who plans to dethrone the current city ruler and benefit from a certain fee. The Mint Master kidnaps Jim's daughter and threatens to kill her unless Jim steps down, also revealing he has stamped out his opium smuggling operation and called the police. The Blue Beetle intervenes in the ensuing chaos, pursuing the villain across San Francisco and ultimately thwarting his plans, while also uncovering a larger alien threat when light flashes from space signal an extraterrestrial message warning of danger to Earth.
When gangster Red Donahue poses as a reformed benefactor to steal atomic bomb research files from journalist Joan Mason, she becomes suspicious—and pays the price when radioactive exposure blinds her during a reconnaissance flight. The Blue Beetle must uncover Donahue's plot to extract atomic energy and use it for a heist, all while the criminal's experiments wreak havoc across the city.
When Rocket Kelly, Whacky, Sue Andrews, and Sabio crash-land in the Atom World of Selura, they discover a civilization enslaved by the tyrannical Dr. Malik, who wields devastating atomic power. After the group discovers the source of his dominion and turns his own weapon against him, they work to establish peaceful contact between Selura and Earth, ultimately welcoming the first interplanetary scientific expedition to the strange world.
