“Fathers..., Part 1: Past Tense”

In "Fathers..., Part 1: Past Tense," Supergirl confronts haunting visions of her father’s command to kill baby Kal-El, leading her to seek refuge with Raven. Taken to Azarath, the dimension of her mentor’s upbringing, Supergirl undergoes a healing trance under the care of monks Daran and Rennik. Meanwhile, Raven detects a growing crisis at a Sausalito campus, where a flame-wielding youth named Jonathan Mitchell has turned violent, targeting science labs he believes are tied to a nuclear-powered weapons program. Written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by Phil Winslade, with colors by Chris Chuckry and letters by Rob Leigh, this issue’s cover by Phil Winslade captures the tension between past trauma and present danger.

Upset at visions of her father telling her to kill the baby Kal-El, Supergirl asks Raven for help. Raven takes her to the alternate dimension of Azarath, where she grew up. Monks Daran and Rennik put her in an unconscious state to heal her. Raven senses urgent problems at a campus in Sausalito, where a psychotic flame-powered youth, Jonathan Mitchell, has killed several people while breaking into his college science labs. He believes the college is making weapons, with the lab being powered by an on-campus nuclear generator.
