The Dreams 'n Schemes of Col. Kilgore #1
In "Thundering Guns of the Golden Gate Part 1," writer Brian Chin launches a gritty, historically tinged mystery with Colonel Kilgore, a figure whose real-world roots are as murky as they are compelling. Set against the authentic backdrop of San Francisco’s Sixth Coast Artillery Regiment, the story blurs the line between fact and fiction, inviting readers to question whether this enigmatic military figure is more than just a cinematic echo. The tale unfolds with a grounded sense of place, drawn with precision by Brian Chin, who also handles the cover art.

Creator and artist Brian Burr discusses the origins of Col. Kilgore in which he posits the character is not fictional, as Dave Darrigo had stated in the opening editorial. One reason not to believe him is in the years since the American movie, Apocalypse Now (United Artists, 1979) which famously featured one Colonel Kilgore, the archetype has become a bit of a trope. In any event, the Sixth Coast Artillery Regiment is a factual element of San Francisco military history.
