Kang plucks Hulk from the present and whisks him back to World War I to stop the Phantom Eagle from accomplishing a mission which will prevent the Avengers and the Hulk himself from ever existing. When the Hulk returns to the present with Kang's plans foiled, he finally reverts back to Bruce Banner.
