The Incredible Hulk #253

Nov 1980 · Marvel · 0.50 USD
“The Changelings--Part II!”

In "The Changelings—Part II!", the Hulk, isolated and believing himself friendless, is provoked into a fight by Doc Samson—only to be called back when Siren urgently warns him that Leoninus has poisoned Centauron and the Changelings' village is under attack. With Sal Buscema’s dynamic art capturing the clash of giants and the emotional weight of fractured alliances, Bill Mantlo delivers a pivotal chapter where loyalty is tested and the Hulk must choose whether to stand with his allies. The cover by Rich Buckler and Al Milgrom perfectly captures the chaos, as the valley erupts in conflict and the fate of the Changelings hangs in the balance.

Believing he has no friends, Hulk has left Betty and the others but when Doc Samson finds and insults him, the two begin to fight. At the Changelings' village, Leoninus and his faction attack Woodgod. Figuring out Leoninus poisoned Centauron, Siren flies off and gets Hulk and Samson to return to help their friends. Upon arriving, Siren tells the others Leoninus poisoned Centauron and the battle starts in earnest. With the help of Hulk and Samson, Leoninus' group is defeated. Sloan stays behind with Siren but the rest leave the valley. Ross rails against Hulk, causing him to leave in anger.
