In "Adaptive Audience," Bruce Banner is taken captive by the weapons dealer Devlin DeAngelo, who forces him to repair a damaged Super-Adaptoid. As Bruce works under duress, he secretly reprograms the machine to turn on its captor, leading to a fierce clash between the Adaptoid and the Hulk. Meanwhile, Bruce encounters the enigmatic Ringmaster, whose hypnotic influence begins to take hold. Written by Joe Casey and brought to life by Javier Pulido’s dynamic art, with inks by Larry Mahlstedt, colors by Kevin Somers, and letters by John Workman, this 1998 issue features a cover by Pulido and Mahlstedt.

Bruce is kidnapped by Devlin DeAngelo, and forced to work on repairing the Super-Adaptoid. Bruce reprograms the Adaptoid to attack DeAngelo, but not before a fight ensues between the Adaptoid and the Hulk. Bruce encounters the Ringmaster, and falls under his hypnotic spell.
