Lake Cogswell overhears a conversation between George and Jane about the impending destruction of the Earth by the approaching asteroid and so the news spreads to the rest of Earth's population. Scientists determine that it appears the underwater creatures are recycling the remains of Earth's flooded cities. Cosmo Spacely reveals to George that he has secretly built a deep-space vessel capable of saving seven people from the impending doom. Cosmo tells George that he is offering the remaining three spaces his vessel to George's family of four leaving George with a terrible decision to make.
