The issue features two main stories: "Solid Jackson," in which the character encounters a giant and must escape with a basketball by using it as a vessel to ride in; and "A Girl Called," where young Spud Dennison receives a mysterious phone call from an unknown girl, becomes obsessed with identifying her, and calls numerous girls trying to find her, only to eventually realize his own mother had protected him from an unwanted social invitation from the unattractive Hepsibah Tizzle, the class pest.
