The Legend of the Shield #3

Issue three of Impact Comics' 1991 reimagining finds the Shield in the thick of a brutal street-level brawl, trading punches and a knife-strike against two leather-jacketed toughs — one marked "Jewels" — while a downed figure lies at their feet and a costumed figure soars in the background. Grant Miehm's cover art captures the gritty, kinetic energy promised by the tagline "Wild in the Streets!" perfectly. With Mark Waid and Miehm steering the story under the title "Renegade," this is superheroics pulled firmly out of the clouds and onto the pavement.
