Jesse Santos's painted cover for this 1975 Gold Key issue sets an atmospheric scene straight away: Dr. Spektor stands against a full moon, arm raised and clutching a rosary as he confronts a swirling, ethereal female spirit rising from a prone young woman on the rocky mountaintop ground. The cover copy promises "a mountaintop ritual frees a possessed girl of an evil spirit," and Santos's luminous, painterly style renders that supernatural struggle with genuine unease and drama. Don Glut's "Masque Macabre" sounds like a fitting tale for this moody, occult-tinged series.
