The Shadow #14

Andy Helfer and Kyle Baker's The Shadow kicks off a new arc with this September 1988 issue, subtitled "Body & Soul, Part 1." Baker's cover is strikingly spare — the Shadow's shadowed face looms in profile behind what appears to be a barbed-wire barrier, the deep crimson and purple palette punctuated by sharp bursts of white light, creating an atmosphere of menace and unease. It's a moody, mature piece of work that signals exactly the kind of dark, sophisticated storytelling this creative team brought to the character throughout their run.
