The Spectre #18
In "Final Judgments," the Spectre confronts the brink of destruction as the forces of light and darkness converge—Madame Xanadu, Ramban, and Father Craemer guide Jim Corrigan through his sorrow, while the Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Doctor Fate, and Etrigan race to stop the eclipsed Spectre from ending the world. Written by John Ostrander and illustrated with haunting precision by Tom Mandrake, this pivotal issue sees the Spectre reclaim his purpose, choosing mercy over vengeance, and receiving a final, profound revelation from the archangel Michael. The cover, also by Tom Mandrake, captures the weight of that moment in stark, evocative detail.

While Madame Xanadu, Ramban, and Father Craemer help the soul of Jim Corrigan overcome its grief and loneliness, the Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Doctor Fate, and Etrigan try to prevent the eclipsed Spectre from destroying the Earth. The combined might of both groups is able to put Jim Corrigan back in control of the Spectre, and the Spectre then passes judgment on Eclipso. The Spectre decides not to destroy humanity, realizing that without mercy, there is no justice - only vengeance. Lastly, the archangel Michael appears to the Spectre and tells him that he finally understands his mission.
