The Transformers #35
In "The Next Best Thing to Being There!, Part 1," Shockwave unleashes the Constructicons in a bid to crush the Autobots, setting the stage for a brutal clash that sees the Decepticons merge into the towering Devastator. As the battle rages, Shockwave is left puzzled by Optimus Prime’s failure to awaken Jetfire with the Creation Matrix—unaware that the true power of the Matrix has already passed to another. Written by Bob Budiansky and illustrated by Ricardo Villamonte, with Brad Joyce on inks and Nel Yomtov handling colors, this 1985 Marvel UK issue delivers a tense, action-packed start to a pivotal arc, all framed by Will Simpson’s dynamic cover.

Shockwave creates the Constructicons to destroy the Autobots. The Constructicons then later merge into Devastator when faced vs. the Autobots' attack, but are defeated. Shockwave wonders why Optimus Prime has failed to infuse life into Jetfire with his creation matrix (since he doesn't know that Prime passed on the full effects to Buster).
