The Unbelievable Gwenpool #23

Part of Marvel's Legacy initiative, The Unbelievable Gwenpool #23 arrives with a cover by Gurihiru that's hard to look away from: Gwenpool — guns raised and sneakers on — stands levitated in the enormous gauntleted hand of a looming Doctor Doom, his iron mask and green-hooded cloak dominating the background above a darkly atmospheric castle silhouette. The story title "Doom Sees You" says it all, and the cover's moody palette of teal, purple, and pink makes the encounter feel both ominous and just a little absurd in the best possible way. With Christopher Hastings writing, Irene Strychalski on art, and Rachelle Rosenberg's colors throughout, this 2018 issue is a stylish showcase for one of Marvel's most entertainingly self-aware characters.
