“Inferno Part the Third: Burn!”

In "Inferno Part the Third: Burn!", the X-Men find themselves locked in a brutal clash with their former allies, X-Factor—only to realize too late that the real enemy is hiding in plain sight. As tensions escalate and the team fractures under mounting pressure, Havok and a mysterious Maddie Pryor retreat to the Empire State Building, where a terrifying ritual looms. With the X-Men and X-Factor finally uniting, they face down N'astirh, but the true mastermind behind the chaos is far more dangerous than anyone imagined. Written by Chris Claremont and illustrated with intense precision by Marc Silvestri, with Dan Green’s inks and Glynis Oliver’s colors heightening the dread, this 1989 issue delivers a pivotal chapter in the Inferno saga—its cover by Silvestri and Green capturing the chaos in sharp, dramatic detail.

The Goblin Queen has dropped into her Madelyne Pryor form and, thinking that she is being attacked by X-Factor, the X-Men battle their old friends. The X-Men continue to grow more irrational and violent. Havok joins Maddie and N'astirh as they retire to the top of the Empire State Building and prepare to sacrifice Nathan Christopher to open Limbo. The X-Men and X-Factor finally get their act together and combine forces to battle and destroy N'astirh. Unfortunately, the Goblin Queen stands revealed as the real power of Inferno as she captures Jean Grey and continues her sinister plot.
