The Vigilante #30
In "Counsel," the legacy of the Vigilante is tested as Dave faces off against Adrian Chase over the right to carry on the mantle. With mob violence escalating and Harry digging into the past, the line between justice and vengeance grows dangerously thin. Written by Paul Kupperberg and illustrated by Tod Smith with inks by Tony DeZuniga and Larry Mahlstedt, the issue's moody art by Liz Berube and Agustin Más complements a story where duty and identity collide. The cover by Tod Smith and Rick Magyar captures the tension in a single, stark image.

Adrian and Dave fight about the latter's decision to take up the mantle of the Vigilante. Dave insists that the work which Chase started was important and he plans on carrying it out in an honorable and non-lethal manner. Dave has picked an inopportune time to become a costumed crime fighter, however, as someone in the mob has started taking out all of his competitors, causing a full scale gang war. Despite being taken off the case and warned to stay away from Adrian Chase, Harry continues to secretly investigate his role in the Vigilante affair.
