In this 1963 Western Comics adaptation, the beloved tale of Pinocchio begins as the Blue Fairy breathes life into Gepetto’s wooden puppet, setting him on a journey guided by the ever-watchful Jiminy Cricket. From Stromboli’s clutches to the reckless allure of Pleasure Island, Pinocchio’s misadventures test his growing sense of right and wrong, while Jiminy struggles to keep him on the straight path. With Walt Kelly’s expressive art bringing the story to life and Norm McGary’s striking cover capturing its whimsical danger, this issue is a classic reimagining of Collodi’s timeless tale.

The Blue Fairy brings Gepetto's wooden puppet Pinocchio to life. Jiminy Cricket is enlisted as his conscience. Pinocchio is captured by the evil showman Stromboli, but is rescued by the Blue Fairy. Not learning a lesson, Pinocchio is then enticed to travel with a coach load of boys to Pleasure Island. There they indulge in bad behavior until the boys turn into donkeys. Pinocchio is saved by Jiminy part-way through the transformation. In the meantime, Gepetto was swallowed by the whale Monstro. Pinocchio and Jiminy search for Monstro and the pair are re-united with Gepetto in Monstro's belly.
