“In The Belly of the Beast”

"In The Belly of the Beast" delivers a mind-bending ride through fractured realities, where Russ and Savage Henry—after narrowly surviving a bomb and losing years to a Chronovore—find themselves hunted across dimensions. With help from dinosaur-descended miners in a Tapioca Cavern, they’re trapped again as the Chronovore closes in, erasing one of their rescuers to nothingness. Meanwhile, Ron’s hunt for his clones grows more desperate. Written by Matt Howarth and Lou Stathis, with art and inks by Howarth and lettering by Deborah Glencross, this 1985 Vortex issue features a cover by Matt Howarth that captures the surreal tension of the story.

Russ, a Caroline clone, and Savage Henry separate the Loot from Dino's pet without setting off a powerful bomb. The Loot is stolen by a street urchin who accidentally releases a Chronovore. Henry and Russ lose 10 and 20 years of their age respectively. The Chronovore follows them as they move through many realities. Trapping themselves in a Tapioca Cavern, they are rescued by four miners who were descended from dinosaurs. The Chronovore catches up and de-ages one of the miners to nonexistence. The six are trapped. Meanwhile, Ron looks for more of his own clones to kill.
