“Sub-Mariner vs. Green-Out!!!”
About this Collection

This omnibus collects Bill Everett's post-war Sub-Mariner stories from the late 1940s, showcasing the Prince of Atlantis in solo adventures and team-ups as Timely Comics transitioned into the Atlas era. Featuring issues from Sub-Mariner Comics and Marvel Mystery Comics, the volume highlights Everett's distinctive art and storytelling during a period of declining superhero popularity. It includes rare material that bridges the Golden Age to the 1950s revival of the character.

"Sub-Mariner vs. Green-Out!!!" is a standout tale from Bill Everett’s Golden Age run, showcasing his signature blend of pulpy adventure and underwater intrigue. In this gripping story, Namor investigates a mysterious death on the waterfront, uncovering a chilling experiment by Dr. D. Mencha that leads him to enlist Namora’s help in a daring trap. The tale, written and illustrated by Everett himself, features dynamic artwork and a tense, mystery-driven plot that highlights the Sub-Mariner’s moral complexity. The cover, a striking collaboration by Carl Burgos and Bill Everett, captures the story’s high-stakes drama with bold, period-accurate flair.

While strolling the waterfront, Namor witnesses a girl drop dead. He diagnoses the unlikely cause as the bends and decides to investigate a nearby river dredge that he finds suspicious. There, he discovers that Dr. D. Mencha is experimenting on young girls, inflicting them with decompression sickness. Namor takes a quick trip to Betty Dean’s apartment to enlist the aid of Namora, whom he uses as bait to catch the demented scientist in the act. The plan works and with the evidence they need, the cousins round up the professor and his men for the harbor police.
