Dr. Permafrost makes a dramatic return in Tom Strong #35, and the cover by Chris Sprouse and Karl Story sets the tension beautifully — the spiky, dark-clad villain descends from above while Tom Strong and a woman in a fur-trimmed coat look up warily, and a golden-armored figure levels a weapon at the threat. Looming ghostlike in the cool blue background is a giant female face, adding an eerie, atmospheric weight to the standoff. Writer Peter Hogan's "Cold Calling" promises exactly the kind of pulpy, stylish adventure this America's Best Comics series does so well.
