The concluding chapter of Vertigo's four-part miniseries arrives with a cover by Glenn Fabry that crackles with grotesque energy — a cloaked figure strikes out atop a massive, diseased-looking organic mass, while a blond man in a jacket is dragged along its surface, reaching desperately outward. The featured quartet of John Constantine Hellblazer, the Phantom Stranger, Doctor Occult, and Mister E promises the kind of dark, occult-tinged storytelling that made Vertigo's mature-readers line so compelling in 1999. Writer John Ney Rieber and artist John Ridgway bring this "Lingering Death" chapter home in what looks to be a fittingly unsettling finale.
