“And My Baby's Gone...”

In "And My Baby's Gone...", Pam’s life takes a turn when she reads that J. McDuddle-Scott is hailed as the greatest man in the world—only to leap to the conclusion that her shared last name makes her a genius too. Her sudden belief in her own importance strains her relationship with Ron and leads to an unexpected job loss. Art by Jordi Franch Cubells, this 1965 Valentine comic captures a quietly absurd moment of self-delusion with sharp wit and period charm.

The newspapers call J. McDuddle-Scott the greatest man in the world. On the telly, Pam hears him state that the McDuddle-Scotts are a very small clan, but they are all geniuses. Pam assumes she must be related to him because of their last names and, therefore, believes she is also a genius. Her pretensions of being someone important exasperate Ron and also end up getting her fired from her job.
